Care and repairs

A piece made for you should last. A little care keeps it right, and when it needs a hand we can mend it.

Washing

  • Wash cool, inside out, with like colours. Dark cloth keeps its depth longer that way.
  • Hand wash anything embroidered, or use a gentle cycle in a wash bag.
  • Skip the tumble dryer. Hang in the shade; strong sun fades black first.

Pressing

  • Press on the reverse while the cloth is still slightly damp.
  • Never run an iron straight over embroidery. Lay a clean cloth over it and press through.
  • Steam is kinder than a hot plate for kaftans and agbada.

Storing

  • Hang tailored pieces on a broad hanger so the shoulder keeps its line.
  • Fold heavy agbada rather than hanging it, so the weight does not pull the neck.
  • Let a piece air for a day after wearing before it goes back in the wardrobe.
